Aaron's Awards For The 2015-16 Season

As you might not have known, last year I made a post giving who I thought the award winners were for last year. This year, I am doing the same thing. So here we go...

Coach Of The Year: Before I jump into this, I do want to give a shout out to Dave Joerger; a guy that I think should be in the running for coach of the year. The guy had to deal with 28 different players this season. A regular team only has to deal with about 15-18 different players. The best thing about this, is that Joerger still managed to help this team get the 7th seed in the west even without most of their starters that they started the year with. But enough of me ranting on about the Grizzlies, I'll make sure I'll have a different post to do that in. Right now, we need to bring back the meaning of the Coach of the Year award because right now it seems like the team with either the best or the second best record gets the award. I think that doesn't really mean much. In fact, I don't think Steve Kerr even deserves this award. While they did great, I don't think it was their coaching staff that went above and beyond, I think it was their players. I also think it shouldn't be the "Coach" of the year, I think it should be the "Coaching staff" of the year where the whole coaching staff gets this award. While the head coach does so much, assistant coaches, coordinators, all of the film guys, and especially the medical staff do so much. Now, who is the Coach of the year? It could really go to Terry Stotts, who has done such a great job coaching Portland, or even Dave Joerger. But my coach of the year has to go to Gregg Popovich. He has lead to a great Spurs record of 67-15. Not only that, but they were able to do that while resting guys. With their best player, Kawhi Leonard out of the lineup, they were 7-3! That is why Pop is my pick.
Winner: Gregg Popovich

Sixth Man Of The Year: Jamal Crawford has the points but he has done nothing other than throw up shots. Enes Kanter, on the other hand, has been grabbing rebounds and has stepped up his defense. Kanter is shooting a career high in FG percentage and 3-point percentage as he has been a big help off the bench. Crawford, meanwhile, has been shooting poorly and has tied his career low in assists per game. Kanter has affected the team to be able to win while Crawford hasn't put up good shooting percentages or assisting numbers. While Crawford hit some big shots for the team, Kanter has been the better bench player.
Winner: Enes Kanter

Rookie Of The Year: While Porzingis and Okafor played pretty good, Karl-Anthony Towns was amazing. Here is what he lead the rookies in; points, rebounds, double-doubles, and minutes. He was second in blocks, shot 54% from the field, and averaged a double-double. Not to mention, he is the only rookie this year to get a player of the week award. He has played the best out of the rookies by far.
Winner: Karl-Anthony Towns

Most Improved Player: You could make a case for Isaiah Thomas or Kemba Walker, but C.J. McCollum has gone from a 6 PPG player to a 20 PPG player. I really can't give the award to anyone else, because no one has done that this season. Nothing even close to such change. Not to mention, he has been a big part in Portland making the playoffs.
Winner: C.J. McCollum

Defensive Player Of The Year: Draymond Green and Kawhi Leonard, how do you pick between the 2. Well, Draymond has been the better defensive player. While Kawhi has been putting tons of effort on offense, Draymond has been focusing his game on defense. Even though both guy negatively affect the team when they are taken off the court, Draymond has a bigger impact. When Draymond is taken off, the Warriors allow about 12 more points per 100 possessions, while the Spurs allow about 5.5 more when Leonard is off the court. Draymond averages 1.5 steals and 1.4 blocks while Leonard averages 1.8 steals and 1 block. As you can see, both are great defensive players, but Kawhi is more of a focused offensive player.
Winner: Draymond Green

Most Valuable Player: Tied for 1st in steals, 11th in assists, 45.4% from 3 while shooting 11.2 3-pointers per game, made over 400 3's as he broke his own record of most 3s in a season, lead his team to the best record ever of 73-9, lead the league in points with 30.1 per game, and was only 10th in turnovers, Stephen Curry. Any arguments?
Winner: Stephen Curry

Aaron's Awards for the 2014-15 season

I may be wrong, but I will stand by my opinion and support it with facts. If you have your own opinion, great. I will supply facts for both sides. I hope you enjoy this annual edition of Aaron's Awards.

Rookie Of The Year: This one I think is pretty obvious. It is down to 2 players really. Many people put Nikola Mirotic and Elfrid Payton in this race but I don't think they are in there. I don't agree with Payton because he averages under 10 PPG. Wiggins averages about 7 more PPG than him. Mirotic averages around 10 PPG so I don't think that he should either knowing that Wiggins averages around 17. Now you say, how can Noel be in it if he averages about 10 PPG? Noel is great on defense and is probably one of the best defensive players in the league. Knowing that Noel has been great on Defense and Offense, that puts him ahead of Mirotic. Looking at Andrew Wiggins though, he averages about the same amount of points as John Wall does. That's pretty good. Not to mention, Noel gets his points on Dunks and Post-ups mainly. Wiggins can score in so many different ways. He can score with Isolation, Post-up, Drives, and Spot-ups. Wiggins is just a better offensive player. It's a close race. Who is my winner though?
Winner: Andrew Wiggins

Sixth Man Of The Year: Okay, we are sick of Jamal Crawford winning this award. You got to love Louis Williams, sometimes. Actually, I don't really like this guy. I do have to say though, Jamal does great things all the time, it's just that Lou has had more of the headlines. What I'm saying is that Louis has never been like this before so he deserves it more than Jamal.
Winner: Louis Williams

Defensive Player Of The Year: Wow, this one is tough. You have Marc Gasol, DeAndrea Jordan, Rudy Gobert, and Draymond Green. I will tell you right now, do not compare their defensive ratings for this award because your defensive rating is affected by your teammates. I do have to say though, Draymond Green is probably the best defender out of all of them. He doesn't just guard in the paint, which is waht all these other defenders do. He comes out and will guard on the perimeter too. That is why I have to say that Green should get it
Winner: Draymond Green

Most Improved Player: Draymond Green has improved and so has Jimmy Butler. But the title "most improved player" meens the most improved guy. I honestly think it is Hassan Whiteside. Hassan is averaging a double-double and is a great defender. He is not averaging that many blocks, but he is averaging the second most in blocks per 48 minutes. He is a great defender. Hassan Has exceeded everyones' expectations more than he has for anyone else. Just ask yourself, would you expect Hassan to put up his number more than Jimmy Butler's. No. Most of you would be like, who is Hassan Whiteside, before the season. That is why I think Whiteside should get this award.
Winner: Hassan Whiteside

Most Valuable Player: You really can't go wrong with either James Harden or Stephen Curry. I thought Stephen Curry was MVP, then James had his 50 point nights. Then Curry started doing better. I have to hand it to Curry though. He broke the NBA most three pointers in a season and lead his team to the best record. Jame didn't do that. Sure, he is doing great with free throws and scoring, but he hasn't lead his team to the best record. That is why Curry is my MVP.
Winner: Stephen Curry

Those are my awards. Comment below. Do you agree, or disagree. Explain why you agree or diagree. I am interested to hear the opinions of the rest of the NBA population. Remember, these are my opinions mixed with facts. Support your own opinions with facts.

Welcome back Paul George

Paul George is back. We have waited a long time for this moment. Pacers fans have had a hard time without him. I don't care if he is on a minutes restriction. Although, this is a Paul George we have never seen before. PG-13. Wearing his #13 jersey for the first time in a Pacers uniform. Of course, we haven't seen the best of PG-13 yet, but expect him to improve through out the rest of the year. Imagine if Paul George wasn't injured this year. He would most likely be an MVP candidate. But then again, imagine if Kevin Durant wasn't injured. He would also be an MVP candidate. Yet, I think we all forget just how skilled Paul George was. Last year he averaged 21.7 PPG, 1.9 Steals per game, 3.5 APG, 6.8 RPG. Not only that, but he was a star player that only averaged 1.9 Turnovers. That's less than Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Durant, and LeBron James. The Pacers are on the outside of the playoffs, and I don't expect them to make it, so this is great encouragement for next year. All I got left to say is, Welcome back Paul George, welcome back.

Are Russell Westbrook or LeBron James MVP candidates?

Russell Westbrook and LeBron James are trying to tell the NBA that they are MVP. Westbrook’s most recent game was a triple-double, 10 rebounds, 12 points, and 17 assists. However, it was a near quadruple double as he had 6 Turnovers. LeBron James had 28 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 assists, but he had 5 turnovers. As these players are gathering triple-double, they are also gathering way too many turnovers. LeBron James is 3rd in the league in turnovers. 2nd is DeMarcus Cousins. The only player that averages more turnovers per game, is, you guessed it, Russell Westbrook. When you average more Turnovers than DeMarcus Cousins, you know something is wrong. Now we look at a player like Stephen Curry, he averages about 1 turnover less than LeBron James. Last year, MVP Kevin Durant averaged about a turnover less than Westbrook. The other fact, the term MVP means the player that is most valuable on the court. The +/- for Stephen Curry is 11.7. He leads the NBA while Russell Westbrook’s is only 4.4. Lebron leads his team, but not the NBA and he has 7.7. So my challenge for you Westbrook and LeBron, instead of being stat chasers like Oscar Robertson, and be more like Bill Russell who valued winning over stats. Bring the turnovers down under 4 and then I just might consider you as MVP players.
